Over one third of young Bucharesters admit to drug use—超过三分之一的青少年承认使用药物

More than one third of young Bucharesters admit to drug consumption, Romanian official Rompres news agency reported Thursday citing a local survey.

In Romanian capital Bucharest, 35 percent among youngster aged 14 to 21 consumed drugs at least once and alarming is also the youth willingness to consume drugs, because 25 percent said they would be tempted to that, according to the survey conducted by the Foundation for the Citizens Defence against State Abuse (FACIAS).

More than 40 percent of the respondents in the poll said that they see drugs as a relaxant. Asked if light drugs should be legalized, 41 percent said "yes," 24 percent gave no answer or said they did not know and just 35 percent said they were against drugs legalization.

"The findings of the survey are extremely serious," reads the preamble of the survey, stressing that "at the current growth pace of drug consumption and with the positive perception of this phenomenon, in 2010 we will attain a rate of 50 percent declared occasional consumers aged 14 to 21."

The survey was conducted over April 15 - May 15 on a sample of one thousand Bucharest pupils and students aged 14 to 21.

Following the results of the poll, FACIAS voiced concern with the activity of the Romanian public anti-drug organizations.
