The support rate for the Cabinet of newly-elected Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda was generally over 50 percent, according to major Japanese newspapers published Thursday.
The rate was 53 percent, 57 percent, 57.5 percent and 59 percent respectively in opinion polls conducted by the Asahi daily, the Mainichi daily, the Yomiuri daily and the Nikkei daily.
Respondents said the new prime minister looked reserved, stable and trustworthy.
A survey organized by Kyodo News shortly after the establishment of the Cabinet on Tuesday showed the support rate for it was 57.8 percent, the fifth highest for a new Japanese premier.
