The death toll has risen to nine people with sixty-four others injured in an aluminium liquid spill accident on Sunday night in a foundry in east China's Shandong Province.

The accident took place around 8:10 p.m. Sunday in the foundry affiliated to the Shandong Weiqiao Pioneering Group Co., Ltd.

The 900- degree liquid then met cooling water outside, forming a lethal shock wave of steam. 据新华社报道，当时车间工人正在开会铝水突然从容器中溢出，由于铝水温度高达900℃，遇到外面冷却水产生水蒸气形成了强大气流。 The report says the steam current significantly damaged the large plant, blowing off its roof, shattering its glass windows and causing cracks on the walls. 报道说，巨大的车间已被气流冲得破碎不堪，房顶已被整体掀掉，窗玻璃全部震得粉碎，墙体出现多处明显裂缝。 The current also affected an adjacent plant. In total, there were 82 workers at the two plants.
